Which oil to use? 5w30 or 5w40
geschrieben von: Danthe - Outlander 2.0 DI-D Intense (IP-Adresse bekannt)
Datum: 07. Oktober 2016 16:44 Hi, I own 2007 Outlander, BSY engine, 180.000km on the clock. From when I bought car (2 years ago), I used Castrol Edge 5W30 oil (VW 507.00), but recently I noted that it is recommended to use 505.01 or 506.01 oil. I can only find Castrol 5W40 with 505.01 specification. So, is it safe to use 5W40 instead of 5W30? Which oil and viscosity do you guys use? 3-mal bearbeitet. Zuletzt am 07.10.16 17:11. |

Datum: 07. Oktober 2016 20:48 problem is that I can't find Castrol 5w30 with 505.01 specification, only 507.00. Somewhere online you can read that 505.01 can be replaced by 507.00, and somewhere that TDI PD should ONLY use 505.01
I am confused |

Datum: 09. Oktober 2016 12:47 It would be better to use 505.01. Volkswagen say that you can use 507.00. But I think I have read , that man damages occured with PD engines. 5W40 is no Problem. It is only the viscosity and has nothing to do with quality of the oil. |

Datum: 09. Oktober 2016 17:53 I have read that somewhere online, that is the main reason to ask
I can find Castrol Edge 5W40 with 505.01, so my main concern is if maybe 5w40 is too thick, considering manual says 0w30 |

Datum: 10. Oktober 2016 13:23 I think 5w40 is not too thick. 5W is important for the Winter (and for the cold engine). It is the same in both cases. 30 or 40 is important in the Summer. Maybe it is even better to use a little bit thicker oil in Summer. |
